About the campaign

Zionism Is Not Racism is an independent campaign by supporters of the Jewish community, not affiliated with any party. It was set up after the Green Party of England and Wales passed Motion A105, "Zionism is Racism", on 4 October 2026. It asks the public to email, call and write to the Green Party and its councillors until the motion is repealed. Every email is written and sent by the visitor from their own account; the site stores no personal data about them.

All the information on the site about the Green Party, its councillors and its local parties, including names, wards, contact details and photographs, was taken from public websites.

The facts in brief

  • What: Motion A105, "Zionism is Racism", a policy motion of the Green Party of England and Wales conference, proposed by Lubna Speitan.
  • When: passed on 4 October 2026.
  • Who backed it: 24 sitting Green councillors appear in the party's own printed list of supporters. Names, councils and wards.
  • What it says:
  • Declares the Green Party "an anti-Zionist party": a mainstream British party formally opposed to the core belief of most British Jews.
  • Supports "a single democratic Palestinian State in all of historic Palestine", which means the end of Israel as a state. That rejects the two-state solution backed by the UN, the UK, the EU, the Arab League and the Palestinian Authority.
  • Affirms Palestinian "struggle ... by all available means" and, in its own briefing paper, spells that out as "including armed struggle".
  • Orders that Zionism "be treated as any other form of racism" by the party's Anti-Racism Policy Working Group: Jewish members who believe Israel should exist are to be handled as racists.
  • Calls Marwan Barghouti, convicted of five murders, merely a "prisoner of conscience".
  • Supports a proscribed terrorist organisation: it calls for Palestine Action, banned by Parliament under the Terrorism Act 2000, to be taken off the list.
  • Argues in its briefing paper that the word "antisemitism" is a "misnomer" that should be dropped, and that the definitions used by the UK Government and most councils are "weaponry".

Quotes for use

Attributable to a spokesperson for the Zionism Is Not Racism campaign.

  • By singling out the Jews, the Greens have become racist.
  • I am a Zionist, so the Green Party says I am a racist.
  • Zionism is not racism. It is the belief that Jews have a right to a homeland in their ancestral land, held by around nine in ten British Jews. A party that calls that belief racism has passed a verdict on a people, not on a government.
  • UK law recognises Jewish people as an ethnic group protected by the Equality Act 2010. The Equality and Human Rights Commission found in 2020 that treating Jews' identity as suspect is unlawful discrimination. The Green Party has written that into its own policy.
  • 24 sitting Green councillors put their names to this motion. Their constituents are entitled to ask them whether they stand by it.
